The Open Shelter, Inc.

The Open Shelter, Inc. is the February 2016 recipient of Worthington United Methodist Church's Bags of Blessings outreach ministry.  The Open Shelter opened in 1983 as the first 24-hour emergency walk-in shelter in Ohio.  Since that time over 30,000 men, women and children have been helped.

Located at 61 East Mound Street (behind St. John's Church), the Open Shelter provides persons "living on the land" with food, clothing, camping items, hygiene items and other essentials to help them survive until they are able to access shelter or housing options.

The Open Shelter works to provide direct referrals to medical care, entitlement benefits and linkage to housing options.  The facility also serves as a legal mailing address if needed.

We invite you to join in this important effort by donating any or all of the items listed.  If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved with this ministry, please contact Jim Heilman at 614-846-7809 or by email at suejimheilman@hotmail.com
